Admission to 14 Smithsonian museums and the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., is free.
Hours
The Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C. are open every day of the year except December 25th. The museums are open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with the following exceptions:
The Anacostia Museum is closed for renovation through spring 2001.
The National Museum of American Art closed for renovation after January 3, 2000, for approximately three years.
The National Portrait Gallery closed for renovation after January 9, 2000, for approximately three years.
Weather permitting, the Zoo is open every day except December 25.
National Zoo hours:
May 1 to September 15: buildings 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; grounds 6 a.m.-8 p.m.
September 16 to April 30: buildings 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; grounds 6 a.m.-6 p.m.
In New York City the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum is open (with free admission) on Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. Closed federal holidays.
Garden District -St. Charles Avenue
The Garden District was given its name early in New Orleans' history and remains famous for its nineteenth century homes and gardens. To get the real feel of the Garden District, pick up up a walking tour map at the Visitor Center at 523 St. Ann, Jackson Square.
Mother's Day - Audubon Zoo A musical program featuring animal-related songs and live animals! From Baby Elephant Walk to Talk To The Animals, it will be a real treat! Then at 2pm, Irma Thomas takes the stage for her annual rocking concert at the Zoo. Irma sings her special songs, like It's Raining. Free admission for moms. Sponsored by Tulane/Xavier Women's Center.

Old Town
Saturday Night Cruise A four-block shopping, dining
and entertainment complex, Old Town's centerpiece is
its huge lighted Ferris wheel. Seventy-five stores
offer a myriad of merchandise, and more than a dozen
rides provide the entertainment. The complex draws
huge crowds on Saturday nights, when a free
rock-n-roll concert and a parade of 300 vintage cars
are offered.
Cornell Fine Arts Museum
Situated on the campus of Rollins College, this free
museum features significant loans, recent
acquisitions, and items from the Cornell's renowned
permanent collection. Call for details of current
